Since 2006, I have worked full-time as the Graphic Designer / Creative Department for Vineland Estates Winery. I also do freelance graphic design work in the Niagara Region. I have always been a keen artist, painting and sketching for myself as well as producing commissioned pieces.
I wanted to create something to do with wine as I work at a world class winery. My first thought was to sketch vines that would form images. This turned into the series of wine labels called “Expressions in D” where I created a cello out of vine. Around the beginning of 2013 I thought of the idea of actually painting with wine. When I did some research I found that it was not a common practice but it has been done similarly around the world.
It took some time and a lot of trial and error to figure out how to work with the wine and the lees. I am working with two separate mediums: a watercolour and an acrylic type medium. My very first piece was of the barrel cellar at Vineland Estates Winery. I have perfected my technique and am able to achieve darker colours and further detail into each piece.
Each painting is professionally scanned which allows me to offer Fine Art Giclee’s, stretched canvases and greeting cards. These are available to purchase at Vineland Estates Winery, through my online store: www.etsy.com/ca/shop/melissaproudlock or by contacting me directly through my contact page.
I collaborate with my parents on creating custom frames as an option to complete both Originals and Giclee pieces.
